Kroger Community Rewards – Did you know that St. John’s participates in the Kroger Rewards Program? We receive a percentage of the amount of money spent at Kroger by folks who have connected their Kroger Card to St. John’s. This past quarter there were 3 families participating and we received $52.13. Please tell your family, friends, and neighbors how they can help St. John’s, by connecting to St. John’s Episcopal Church NPO #89481. For more information please contact the Rector.
Worship Volunteers – Please consider volunteering to assist with worship. It would be helpful to have a few more people who can assist as a Reader or Usher. Ushering, while a simple task, is an important function of our church’s ministry. The ushers are the face of the Parish on Sunday.
Wills and Trusts Planning – Oakland Christian UCC will host a Wills and Trusts workshop on Sunday Oct. 1 beginning at 6:30 pm. Even if you did not sign up you are welcome to attend on Sunday evening.
Flowers – Thank you to all who have signed up for flowers this year. Due to the new supplier, there is a slight reduction in cost. We are charged $92.50 for flowers, and flowers last for two weeks. If you have more questions, please contact Lynn.
Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question What do we mean by everlasting life? Answer: By everlasting life, we mean a new existence, in which we are united with all the people of God, in the joy of fully knowing and loving God and each other. (BCP 862)
This week’s question: What, then, is our assurance as Christians? Look for the answer next week.
Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our Gospel reading Exodus 17:1-7, “Water from the Rock.” Next week we will discuss our Old Testament reading Exodus 20:1-4, 7-9, 12-20, “The Ten Commandments.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.
Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 78:1-4, 12-16 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 660, “O Master, let me walk with thee” (Maryton) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.
Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.
Upcoming Parish Events – Ongoing: Tuesdays – Boy Scouts meeting. Sep. 30 – Red Cross Luncheon; Oct. 1 – Blessing of the Pets.
Thought for the week – Love: Through our faith we observe the law of love, loving God with all our heart and all our soul and all our strength, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. All of us can respond to God with faith, and hope, and love. Thanks be to God for his great gift of love!
