Community Thanksgiving Service – The churches in greater Chuckatuck and Oakland will hold their interdenominational Thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 19 at 5:00 pm. The service will be at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and our preacher will be Rev. Don General from Perfecting Saints Church of God in Christ

Greening of the Church – Because the Fourth Sunday of Advent is also Christmas Eve, we will green the church in preparation for Christmas on December 17. We won’t put poinsettias out until Christmas, but the Church will be greened early.

CAPS Night Stay Program – An Informational open house will be held on Saturday, Nov 18, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Suffolk Christian Church. If you have any questions about the Night Stay Program or would like to participate, please stop by any time during those three hours to ask questions.

Pledges – Pledge cards and letters are available in the Narthex. Please pick your package up to help save a few dollars in postage. Please return your pledges by December 3 to allow the Vestry to complete their budget planning for 2018.

Vestry Election – Following worship on December 3 we will hold our Vestry election for the 2018-2020 term. David Gardner has agreed to run and serve if elected. If there is anyone else who might want to serve, please contact the Rector.

“Job Jar” – The Vestry has moved to create a “Job Jar” that will be filled with simple tasks that will help do simple maintenance around the church grounds. The goal is to break down needed repairs to 30-60-minute tasks that anyone can do. The jar will be in the Parish House or Sanctuary, depending on the day. Stop by and help do some needed work at the Church.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question What fixture in the sanctuary is usually the highest elevated ornament in the altar space? Answer: The Altar Cross.
This week’s question: Which candle on the altar is referred to as the Gospel candle? Look for the answer next week.

Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our New Testament reading, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, “The Coming of the Lord.” Next week we will discuss the Psalm appointed for the day; Psalm 100, “All Lands Summoned to Praise God.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 123 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 297, “Descend, O Spirit, purging flame” (Erhalt uns, Herr) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Ongoing: Tuesdays – Boy Scouts meeting. Nov. 18 – Night Stay open house; Nov. 19 – Community Thanksgiving service; Nov. 28 – Card Crafters meeting; Dec. 3 – Parish Meeting; Dec. 6 – Advent Soup Lunch & Study.

Thought for the week – Give: Do something to make a difference in the world today, this week, this year. Don’t let the size of the task discourage you. Do what you can. And remember these words of Jesus: “YOU give them something to eat.”
