Inclement Weather Policy – Safety is first and foremost at St. John’s. We will follow the Suffolk School District with respect to closures. If we have an event planned expect it to continue as scheduled BUT if you do NOT feel safe getting to the Church, please stay home. Your safety is more important to us than your presence is.
Annual Meeting and Potluck – We have postponed the annual meeting and potluck originally scheduled for this Sunday, January 7 to next Sunday, January 14. Sorry for the inconvenience but given the weather forecast it is prudent to delay a week.
Formation Classes – This week we will begin a new series of study in our Sunday morning offering. We will begin a study of the Minor Prophets in Hebrew Scripture. We will use the text My Servants the Prophets: Lessons from the Minor Prophets by Jeff Smith. The first week will discuss Chapter 1, an Introduction. There is a link on our website by following this Link. Class is held from 9:15-10:15 am. Please come join us.

Un-Greening of the Church – Thank you to all who helped un-decorate the Church last Sunday.
Christmas Lessons and Carols – Thank you to all who helped with Lessons and sang with great gusto during our carols last week.
Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 29 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 524, “I love thy kingdom, Lord” (St. Thomas) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.
“Job Jar” – The Vestry has moved to create a “Job Jar” that will be filled with simple tasks that will help do simple maintenance around the church grounds. The goal is to break down needed repairs to 30-60-minute tasks that anyone can do. The jar will be in the Parish House or Sanctuary, depending on the day. Stop by and help do some needed work at the Church.
Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question What are the topical divisions of the New Testament? Answer: The New Testament is nominally divided into 4 divisions: the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles; the Pauline Epistles; the General Epistles; and the Revelation to John.
This week’s question: Concerning the book of Acts of the Apostles: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Look for the answer next week.
2018 Flower Chart – The schedule for 2018 is posted in the Narthex. Please sign-up for your special days. If you have any questions, contact Lynn Rose.
Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.
Upcoming Parish Events – Ongoing: Tuesdays – Boy Scouts meeting (returning in the New Year). Jan. 9 – Vestry Meeting; Jan. 14 – Annual Meeting; Jan. 15 – Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday (Office Closed) and Junto Women’s Group meeting.
Thought for the week – Joy: Stop and look for any kind word or act of charity, any generosity or forgiveness, any sharing or respect. Thank God for what you see. Receive the joy. The challenges won’t vanish, but do you sense the grace, the joy of God with you?
