Bishop Diocesan Search – The deadline for applications for the Search and Transition Committees as we begin our search for a new Bishop to lead our Diocese closes on Friday, June 15. Please see the Diocesan Website (diosova.org) for the application. Please submit your application electronically to susan@susangrimm.com. Please prayerfully consider your application, and together we will seek God’s will for our next Bishop of Southern Virginia.
The Search and Nomination Committee interviews and selects candidates to present to Standing Committee for nomination as the next Bishop of Southern Virginia. The Transition Committee’s key responsibilities include walkabouts, assist in the election process, ordination & consecration in conjunction with the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, and pastoral care of those in the process.

Enriching Our Worship 1 In the month of June, we will recite the confession of sin found in Enriching Our Worship 1 during our weekly worship.

Formation Classes – We will begin our discussion of “My Servants the Prophets,” chapter 12, Zechariah this week. Check you Wednesday Christian Education e-mail for the chapter as some chapters will take more than one Sunday to get through. All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 20 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 675, “Take up your cross, the Savior said,” (Bourbon) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question Concerning the book of Job: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Answer: The book of Joel is found in the Wisdom division of the Old Testament; it has 42 chapters.
This week’s question: Concerning the book of Job: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Look for the answer next week.

2018 Flower Chart – The schedule for 2018 is posted in the Narthex. Please sign-up for your special days. If you have any questions, contact Lynn.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Ongoing: Tuesdays – Boy Scouts meeting. June 16 – 3rd Annual Peanut Chase; June 23 – G. F. W. C. Flea Market at Oakland Christian UCC; June 30 – 5th Saturday Luncheon at Salvation Army.

Thought for the week – Love: “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” Jesus doesn’t suggest or invite. He commands. Love one another. Love though you don’t like. Love though it’s really hard work.

– Br. Luke Ditewig, SSJE
