Greetings with prayers of thanksgiving and for protection for those who have been, are being, or will be affected by Hurricane Florence. Thankfully, most of southside was spared from significant impact from the storm – lots or preparation and practicing for response but little rain or wind. Our prayers go out to those in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Central Virginia who are feeling the brunt of the storm. The unpredictability of the storm reminds us to be ready on a moment’s notice for the unexpected.
We celebrated in worship a Sunday filled with promise and encouragement. Our reading from Proverbs reminded us that wisdom comes in the everyday things, not just the miraculous; all we have to do is listen. James’ epistle encourages and warns us: stick with our faith and sharing but be careful if you are one who teaches because you are held to a higher standard. What is the requirement for our sharing? Mark conveys Jesus’ question we need to answer “who do you say I am?” Our mission is to engage people and help them know Jesus and God – not in absolutes but in the interaction and search for God’s presence. Where is God urging you to look for God’s opportunity?
I invite your comments,
