CAPS Fundraiser and Parish luncheon – Again this year the CAPS fundraiser will be a Fried Chicken & BBQ from Captain Bob’s. The event will be held Sunday, Oct. 14 and the cost is $12/plate. The Vestry has proposed we, as a Parish, purchase tickets and have lunch on that Sunday in lieu of refreshments. There will be a signup in the Narthex if you would like to participate.
We have also been given 50 tickets to sell as part of the fundraiser. If you would like to sell some tickets please contact the Rector for more information. CAPS will receive $7.50 for every ticket sold so please help fund CAPS for the coming year by buying or selling tickets.

Vestry Election – It’s not too soon to prayerfully consider if you are being called to serve on the Vestry. At the end of the year we will have 2 people rotate off the Vestry, Anne and Leone. We’ve had one volunteer to help; are there any other takers? If you are unaware of the requirements to serve on the Vestry please contact the Rector.

Fall Work Day – We have scheduled our fall work day for Saturday October 20th from 8:00 – 11:00 am. There are tasks that would be helpful for the Parish that do not entail working in the yard, including a variety of tasks in the Kitchen and other rooms in the Parish House. If you are unable to work on the 20th or would like to help us get a jump start on cleaning up please stop by the Office or contact the Rector.

Kroger Cares Rewards – Recently Kroger changed our participant number to FA738 – which changes nothing except for those who would like to signup in the program. This past quarter, with 4 families participating we received a $46.39 reward. Keep your eye open for Kroger coming to a neighborhood near you (especially downtown Suffolk and Smithfield).

Formation Classes – This Sunday we will continue our discussion of “The Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew 6:1-19). All are invited to come together in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

Sunday’s Psalm – We will recite the psalm on Sunday.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question Concerning the book of Micah: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Answer: The book of Micah is found in the Lesser Prophets division of the Old Testament; it has 7 chapters.
This week’s question: Concerning the book of Nahum: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Look for the answer next week.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays through June: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); Oct. 8 – Federal Holiday; office closed; Oct. 9 – Vestry meeting – Board Room; Oct. 10 – Garden Club meeting – Parish Hall; Oct. 13 – James River Rug Hookers – Parish House; Oct. 14 – CAPS Fundraiser/Luncheon.

Thought for the weekConnection: The truth of baptism is revealed in what it does and who it shows us to be, cleansing us, not from dirt but from separation: separation from God, separation from ourselves, separation from one another.
