Diocesan Bishop Search Prayer – Almighty and most gracious God, source of all wisdom and guidance, send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek and discern a shepherd for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Inspire us with hope, hearts to love you and a desire to serve one another. Grant us grace to entrust you with the future of your Church and all things. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Lake Prince Woods Presentation – Lake Prince Woods will offer a presentation to Military Veterans and their spouses about: (1) the Veteran’s Pension Benefit program, (2) information from the Virginia Asset Group about Long Term Care and legal papers, and (3) information about Home Care Insurance and Medicare plans. Please contact Tammy Garrett at 757-923-5504 or tgarrett@uchas.org for more information or to register to attend.

De-greening the Church after Christmas – Thank you to all who helped remove the greenery and poinsettias from the church on Sunday. Many hands made light work.

Formation Classes – All are invited to come together in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am. We will begin a study reflecting on the weekly lessons from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 29 together.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question Concerning the books of 1 & 2 Thessalonians: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Answer: The books of 1 & 2 Thessalonians are found in the Pauline Epistles division of the New Testament; 1 Thessalonians has 5 chapters and 2 Thessalonians has 3 chapters.
This week’s question: Concerning the books of 1 & 2 Timothy: which testament is it in? What division is it in? How many chapters does it have? Look for the answer next week.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year. Please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays through June: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); Jan. 12 – James River Rug Hookers; Jan. 21 – Martin Luther King Jr. holiday (office closed), G. F. W. C. Junto Women’s Group; Jan. 23 – Convocation IV Pre-Council meeting; Jan. 29 – Card Crafters.

Thought for the week Awe: Throughout the scriptures, the virtue and gift of wisdom is extolled again and again. Curiously, the source of wisdom is what the Scriptures call “the fear of God.” This is not fear as in a dreadful foreboding; it’s not about fright but about glory – our being filled with awe.
