Lenten Program – Our Lenten Study completed Wednesday, April 10, in “The Way of Love” Chapter 4. There is one more chapter to cover if there is interest in finishing the program. Thank you to all who participated in the study this year.

Diocesan Bishop Search Prayer – Almighty and most gracious God, source of all wisdom and guidance, send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek and discern a shepherd for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Inspire us with hope, hearts to love you and a desire to serve one another. Grant us grace to entrust you with the future of your Church and all things. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

City-wide Revival – There will be a City-wide Revival sponsored by the Suffolk Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (SIMA) on April 23-25. The services begin at 7:00 pm each evening and are being held at the New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries, 307 County Street, Suffolk, VA.

Soles-for-Souls – Edward Jones is sponsoring a shoe collection drive.  The program sends gently used shoes to people in need overseas. Please bring your used shoes to church to help this worthy cause. For more information see their website: www.soles4souls.org.

Upcoming Blood Drives – St. John’s will be hosting a Red Cross blood drive on May 16 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm and Edward Jones will follow with a blood drive in July. Please plan to donate or to help solicit volunteers for both drives.

Formation Classes – All are invited to come together in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am. We will begin a study reflecting on the weekly lessons from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 118:14-29 together.

Questions about the Episcopal Church and its Leadership – Over the coming weeks we will have a question about our Church and Leadership as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question: What is a vestry? Answer: A vestry is a group of church leaders, composed of wardens, a clerk, and members elected by the parishioners at the annual parish meeting, as governed by its canons and by laws.
This week’s question: What is a diocese? Look for the answer next week.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year. Please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays through June: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); May 2-6 – Fr. Les out of office; May 5 – Supply clergy; May 12 – Mother’s Day celebration; May 11 – James River Rug Hookers; May 16 – Blood Drive; May 20 – Vestry meeting; May 27 – Memorial Day (office closed).

Thought for the week Eternal Life: Before the music starts to play, we’re enfolded by silence, out of which the music is born. Remembering our eternal life in Christ in the here and now is like recognizing that eternal silence present within each moment as the music of the world plays on.
