Sermon from April 28:
Parish Delegate – Since the Bishop election is in September, the Diocesan staff is requesting our delegate be elected and reported to the office by the end of May (as opposed to June). If anyone would like to volunteer to serve as Parish delegate or alternate for the Bishop’s election and annual council, please contact the Rector or Senior Warden.

Diocesan Bishop Search Prayer – Almighty and most gracious God, source of all wisdom and guidance, send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek and discern a shepherd for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Inspire us with hope, hearts to love you and a desire to serve one another. Grant us grace to entrust you with the future of your Church and all things. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

2020 Holy Land Pilgrimage – Bishop Jay Magness will be hosting another pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2020. The trip will be from February 3-14, 2020 departing and returning to Norfolk. Registration closes June 7. The cost for the trip is $4,750 all-expenses paid except for personal items purchased and travel insurance. There are brochures available with more information.

Lenten Program – Our Lenten Study completed Wednesday, April 10, in “The Way of Love” Chapter 4. There is one more chapter to cover if there is interest in finishing the program. Thank you to all who participated in the study this year.

Soles-for-Souls – Edward Jones is sponsoring a shoe collection drive.  The program sends gently used shoes to people in need overseas. Please bring your used shoes to church to help this worthy cause. For more information see their website:

Formation Classes – All are invited to come together in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am. We will begin a study reflecting on the weekly lessons from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 30 together.

Questions about the Episcopal Church and its Leadership – Over the coming weeks we will have a question about our Church and Leadership as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question: What is a diocese? Answer: A diocese is a geographical grouping of parishes under the supervision of a diocesan bishop.
This week’s question: What do bishops do? Look for the answer next week.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year. Please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays through June: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); May 2-6 – Fr. Les out of office; May 5 – Supply clergy; May 12 – Mother’s Day celebration; May 11 – James River Rug Hookers; May 16 – Blood Drive; May 20 – Vestry meeting; May 27 – Memorial Day (office closed).

Thought for the week Joy: Here’s the problem with pursuing happiness: it’s based on a false premise, namely that there’s something we have to do, something we need to have, in order to be happy. In truth, the joy Jesus shares with us doesn’t work like that. It’s a joy with no cause, with no prerequisite, and it’s already here.
