Diocesan Bishop Search Prayer – Almighty and most gracious God, source of all wisdom and guidance, send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek and discern a shepherd for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Inspire us with hope, hearts to love you and a desire to serve one another. Grant us grace to entrust you with the future of your Church and all things. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

2020 Holy Land Pilgrimage – Bishop Jay Magness will be hosting another pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2020. The trip will be from February 3-14, 2020 departing and returning to Norfolk. Registration closes June 7. The cost for the trip is $4,750 all-expenses paid except for personal items purchased and travel insurance. There are brochures available with more information.

Formation Classes – All are invited to come together in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am. We will begin a study reflecting on the weekly lessons from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 23 together.

Questions about the Episcopal Church and its Leadership – Over the coming weeks we will have a question about our Church and Leadership as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question: What does a bishop do? Answer: (1) In addition to providing vision and leadership for their dioceses, bishops are charged with the apostolic work of leading, supervising, and uniting the church. The Book of Common Prayer notes that a bishop is “to act in Christ’s name for the reconciliation of the world and the building up of the church; and to ordain others to continue Christ’s ministry” (BCP, p. 855). Episcopal services led specifically by bishops include the ordination and consecration of bishops, ordination of priests, ordination of deacons, celebration of a new ministry, and the consecration of a church or chapel. (2) Bishops also preside at services of confirmation, reception, and reaffirmation. Bishops bless altars and fonts, and the blessing of chalices, patens, and church bells are also traditionally reserved for bishops.
This week’s question: What is a bishop suffragan? Look for the answer next week.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year. Please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays through June: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); May 11 – James River Rug Hookers; May 12 – Mother’s Day celebration; May 16 – Blood Drive; May 20 – Vestry meeting; May 27 – Memorial Day (office closed).

Thought for the week Rise: Divine energy raised Jesus Christ from death to life, and that same divine energy courses eternally through the universe, and raises us also – you and me – from death to life.
