Diocesan Bishop Search Prayer – Almighty and most gracious God, source of all wisdom and guidance, send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek and discern a shepherd for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Inspire us with hope, hearts to love you and a desire to serve one another. Grant us grace to entrust you with the future of your Church and all things. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 80:1-2, 8-18 together.

Questions about the Episcopal Church and its Leadership – Over the coming weeks we will have a question about our Church and Leadership as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question What do the following terms mean: chasuble, cope, crosier, dalmatic, miter? Answer. Chasuble: The principle vestment for the Eucharistic liturgy; worn like a poncho by the priest or bishop over the alb and stole. Cope: Long cape worn by worship leader, lay or ordained, for certain processions and ceremonial occasions. Crosier: Crook shaped staff often carried by a bishop in their own diocese as a sign of shepherding authority. Dalmatic: A vestment, rectangular in shape, with loose short sleeves, worn by a deacon at the Eucharist. Miter: From the Greek for “turban.” A liturgical hat worn by a bishop.
This week’s question: What do the following terms mean: antependium, dossal, frontal, paraments? Look for the answer next week.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); Aug. 14 – Summer Creek Estates meeting; Aug. 15 – Knitting Group; Aug. 19 – Vestry meeting; Aug. 20 – Card Crafters; Aug. 25 – Crab & Brat Feast.

Thought for the weekLaughter: Who do you laugh with? That’s the person in whom you will begin to see the face of Jesus, who calls you his friend. It is in the face of the One who calls you friend that you will discover the truth of what this means: no one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. And it all begins, I think, with laughter.
