Greetings from Chuckatuck on the second Sunday after the Epiphany, and the 2nd Sunday in fall 2 (the return of fall in Southern Virginia). We have been enjoying pleasant weather here but, as most of us know, that can change in an instant. We had a full house (more or less) this morning – a couple grandkids, some who have been under the weather returned, and a returned visitor (kin of a member). It was a grand Sunday and a wonderful time of reflection. We pray you all have a meaningful celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s holiday tomorrow.
We worshiped this morning as we looked for enlightenment in Word and Sacrament; the reminder of the promises made by God in ages past. Paul reminded us that we are in a community so all of us can be found blameless by God when we are held to account. John the Evangelist told the story of John the Baptist and the calling of Jesus’ first disciples who were invited to “abide with Jesus.” The sermon today focused on the second installment of the so called “Servant Songs” in Isaiah. That passage reminds us that God creates us perfectly, that while we can be anything all we need to be is the best us we can be, and that the work we do is to continue searching for the perfection that is being a child of God; living in community with others.
