Sunday Worship – We will attempt to conduct a hybrid worship this Sunday having learned on the fly last weekend. We have set up the Parish Hall for worship “for now” and have taken steps to provide social distancing and safe worship. We have also set up to live-stream worship on our YouTube channel at:

Free Drive-up COVID-19 Screening – The Western Tidewater Health District in partnership with the City of Suffolk will be held at Oakland Christian UCC from 1:00 – 3:00 pm (or until tests run out). The test is the nasopharyngeal swab test. For more information call (757) 514-4700.

Caution on Church Grounds – A couple branches on the cedar tree over the Arthur Kirk family graves have cracked and need to be trimmed back. Until they are trimmed, please refrain from loitering around that grave site.

In-person Gathering Plan – We have started regathering for worship for those who feel safe to do so on July 12. Those who decide to attend worship will have to observe these requirements:
* Wear masks in worship             * Maintain social distance
* Communion in one kind           * Initially in the Parish Hall
* No singing but with music        * Simulcast for those at home
* Local account of attendance
            More details have been provided separately.

Sermon from July 12:
Treasurer Resignation – Susan has served as Treasurer for number of years. She has tendered her resignation effective January 2021 (although she will assist with the audit). To prepare for the transition, she will train an assistant for the remainder of 2020 in the procedures for the position. If you are interested in serving, please contact the Rector.

St. John’s YouTube Channel – As part of our practice during the COVID-19 Social Distancing time we created a YouTube Channel. For the moment, we share worship videos (both live stream and pre-recorded), but in the future we will connect classes and other offerings on the Channel. Our channel URL is:

Formation Classes – Are suspended until further notice.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year which will not become necessary until we reconvene for worship. As the day approaches, please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year. Please remember, flowers cost $100 for 2 weeks.

Soles-for-Souls – There is a collection box to help this worthy cause in the parish hall. Consider giving gently used or new shoes for those in need. For more information see their website:

Upcoming Parish Events – Suspended until further notice.

Thought for the weekCommunity: It is precisely the individuals we find difficult who can well be the agents of our conversion. Just like rocks pounded by the sea on the seashore slowly lose their rough edges and get smoothed – so living in community can mold us and form us and help us grow up in Christ. Perhaps above all, community life draws out of us compassion, forgiveness, and love for the other.
