Sunday Worship – We will conduct a hybrid worship this Sunday in the Parish Hall for worship “for now” and have taken steps to provide social distancing and safe worship. We have also set up to live-stream worship on our YouTube channel at:

Bishop’s Announcement regarding COVID-19 – In response to the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Tidewater, the medical/legal subgroup and of the Diocesan office recommends that churches in the 757 area code/Hampton Roads area/Convocations 1-5 consider shutting down public worship until the numbers begin to decline again.
            This decision can be made by the Rector or Priest-in-Charge alone or in consultation with the Vestry of the parish. At the very least, these churches should restrict their public gatherings to 50 or fewer. Remote worship services, recorded or live-streamed in public buildings may continue as they did even in Phase 1.

Caution on Church Grounds – While Don and Bert removed the branch from the Kirk grave site, a number of branches have fallen on the church grounds. Please be careful if you visit the graveyard or the back part of the lot.

In-person Gathering Plan – We have started regathering for worship for those who feel safe to do so. Those who decide to attend worship will have to observe these requirements:
* Wear masks in worship             * Maintain social distance
* Communion in one kind           * Initially in the Parish Hall
* No singing but with music        * Simulcast for those at home
* Local account of attendance
            More details have been provided separately.

Treasurer Resignation – Susan has served as Treasurer for number of years. She has tendered her resignation effective January 2021 (although she will assist with the audit). To prepare for the transition, she will train an assistant for the remainder of 2020 in the procedures for the position. If you are interested in serving, please contact the Rector.

St. John’s YouTube Channel – As part of our practice during the COVID-19 Social Distancing time we created a YouTube Channel. For the moment, we share worship videos (both live stream and pre-recorded), but in the future we will connect classes and other offerings on the Channel. Our channel URL is:

Formation Classes – Are suspended until further notice.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year which will not become necessary until we reconvene for worship. As the day approaches, please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year. Please remember, flowers cost $100 for 2 weeks.

Soles-for-Souls – There is a collection box to help this worthy cause in the parish hall. Consider giving gently used or new shoes for those in need. For more information see their website:

Upcoming Parish Events – Suspended until further notice.

Thought for the weekSeeds: God loves us so much and is so generous that opportunities are endless, with seeds arriving from one moment to the next on a sacred and life-giving wind. They’re arriving in this very moment, and in this one, and in this one, here and now.
