Worship today was the celebration of the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord; otherwise known as the First Sunday after the Epiphany. Themes today included: God showing no partiality toward Gentile or Christian; that God is worthy of our rejoicing; that God’s beloved son is Jesus and that we need to pay attention to Jesus and what he tells us. And from the Hebrew prophetic perspective in Isaiah, we hear about the attributes of the servant (not the suffering servant); one who is chosen by God to bear God’s light to the world so God’s actions can be recognized and successful. It is God that does the work but it is our job to help others recognize God at work in and around them. Our servanthood is founded on our baptism and inclusion in the body of Christ. How are you called to bear witness to God’s presence today?
