Samuel and Paul welcome us in our worship and scripture – Samuel was instrumental in helping change the direction of Israel in the time of change from the judges to the monarchy. While Paul served a reminder that our faith is what helps us navigate the changing landscape of life. The faith we have, as reminded by Paul, allows us to stand firm and confidently in the practice of our relationship with God. But Paul reminds us of a key point, especially today, we cannot live empirically or by human generated parameters and hope to make a real difference. Paul reminds us that our confidence must be based on a moral foundation – then no matter what happens God will not forsake us and we will be uncondemned, but not untested about the basis of our life.
