As we gathered for worship we offered prayers and reflections about our place in God’s kingdom at work in the world. Sometimes our scripture provides a picture that is obviously hopeful, and sometimes it doesn’t. We heard from the Lamentations about the loss of everything and the implied “how did we get here?” question. Our Psalm shed light on the not-so-good side of believers: “dashing children on stones…” doesn’t elicit a favorable response. Luke shares a story where Jesus tells his disciples, “if you want more faith you need to have more faith (you get by giving).” And last, the letter to Timothy reminds us that our foundation gives us what we need to be prepared to serve God – the message of hope doesn’t change – even when we don’t feel at our best. Where is God inviting us to see where we have drifted from our best place?

I invite your comments,
