Our lessons focused on the coming of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. In Acts we heard the account of the first Pentecost and the disciples speaking in tongues so that everyone could hear the message of salvation. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians identified some of the gifts of the Spirit that are supposed to help us bridge our differences and find community in our diversity. The gospel of John is the story of Jesus’ first encounter with the disciples in the upper room and his command to go and be bringers of peace in the world. The day of Pentecost is a day where we remember our strength in diversity and the power of the Spirit to transcend our human divisions. A timely message for our community.
