Greetings from Chuckatuck – Lent rolls along and March is confused. It has been more like a lion than a lamb in Suffolk, not as bad as other places around the country but still near freezing and windy. And life continues as we work through the first two weeks of Lent and the places that God is inviting us to step back, consider our relationship with our community and our God, and to do the work given us as stewards of our church and community. May you all be blessed as you continue your Lenten journey.
While I’m not sure how it conveys in the aural sermon, we were exposed to Abram as he questioned how and when God would make him a mighty nation – since he and Sarai were getting very old. God restated God’s promise to Abram and because Abram trusted God, they formed a covenant relationship. We are invited to remember that God’s promise doesn’t change – but sometimes we end up changing to see God’s promise in a different, and hopefully more complete, way. The special statement offered by the Psalmist this morning was our response to, “why do we consider God’s providence will be with us?” Because, what would my life be if I had not believed God was with me – I would have not had hope.
Lent invites us to remain hopeful in God’s providence and promise – that we will never be left to go it alone, God is always with us – even when we can’t see God.
