In worship, we were encouraged to remember that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and that Jesus’ mission is to equip us for a radically new life of faith. Our first reading was from the Acts of the Apostles and related Peter’s defense of eating with and converting Gentiles to Christianity. Peter explained the radical change he had in his understanding of ministry after the revelation of Cornelius’ preparation for conversion. Our Psalmist sang to remind us that we need to praise God. And not simply because we should, but we need to follow suit with all creation in its praise of God. The gospel reading from John related Jesus’ command to the Disciples – to love one another and that in that love others will see God. Our sermon was based on the reading from the Revelation to John where John relates seeing a new heaven and new earth descending from heaven and God coming to reside with humans. John reminds us of the radical nature of life as God’s followers on earth. We are reminded that God doesn’t bring an end to what is present without having something new in its place.
