Today in worship we heard readings and a reflection on the fractured church and lack of tolerance in Jesus’ time and in the new Church in Corinth. The cross section of readings today spoke to our calling to be witnesses and prophetic for God in the world (Jeremiah) and the assurance that God alone is our stronghold. We also heard “the wedding reading” from 1st Corinthians and Jesus telling that a prophet isn’t received in their own hometown – because they are too well “known”. Yet, Paul reminds us that love (in Greek agape – benevolence and charity) allows us to let grace enter into our discourse. Maybe that is important to hear in our fractured society still, nearly 2000 years later.
I invite your comments,
