Our readings today included the giving of the 10 Commandments (10 Words) in Exodus at the Mountain. We are reminded that there are two aspects of our relationship with God: fidelity to God and our relationship with God and second, our proper functioning as a community. Not just specifically a community of believers but as a community of believers with those around us. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians serves as reminder that God’s wisdom may not be the wisdom of the world (probably won’t be) and that God’s wisdom is what binds us as a community. The gospel reading was John’s account of the clearing of the temple by Jesus at the Passover. John offers us commentary about God’s call to clear away the things that get in the way of proper worship and proper function as a community of people, both great and small. Our challenge is to keep our eyes on the One who is Creator and yet not lose sight of the real world demands of community, even when we are not all alike.

I invite you to listen to the words of Bp. Susan at the links below. May you be blessed in your continuing journey this Lent.

I invite your comments,
Les+
