We are at the midpoint for our Lenten journey, there are only 2 Sundays and Palm Sunday before Easter. Today’s gospel reading was a juxtaposition to last week’s: this week was the long story of the Samaritan woman at the well as counterpoint to the brief story of Niccodemus last week. The readings are often misconstrued (the woman wasn’t specifically forgiven by Jesus – she didn’t ask; and she wasn’t specifically a wanton sinner – Jesus didn’t say so). The point of the story is Jesus reached out to her, she engaged Jesus, she had her eyes opened to Jesus’ divinity, and she reached out to tell others of the grace of God. How do we fit into the story of Jesus and the woman at the well?
I invite your comments,
