As we embarked on our journey in worship we were reminded that God is the one who governs all things in heaven and earth. And yet, God still hears our prayers and grant us wholeness in the relationship we have with God. In our New Testament reading we heard Paul tell the Corinthians that the wisdom and standards of God are not the same thing that are held in esteem in this world. Yet, in the “foolishness” Christians exhibit is found true wisdom. The Psalmist sang a song that reminds us that we, as simple humans, are not able to dwell in God’s presence by our own merits. Those who are welcomed into God’s presence are those who live faithfully with others. Our gospel from Matthew was the introduction of the Beatitudes from Matthew – the truth we are told about right living over against the wisdom of the world.
Our sermon was based mostly on the reading from Micah in Hebrew Scripture. Micah related to Israel that God had done nothing bad to Israel and, in fact, been beneficial to the success of Israel through time. And we are reminded that the true payment to God comes from our relationship with God and others, by doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God. Where are you called to live as God’s messenger?
