In worship, we were reminded that on our own, separated from God, noting is strong or holy. But when we count on God we live through the temporal things and live eternally with God in heaven. Our Hebrew scripture was taken from the prophet Hosea and God’s command to Hosea to “take a wife of whoredom” and allow the people to live their life for themselves and to fall away from God and be left to their devices. Our Psalmist sang a song that reminds us that God is the source of our good fortune and that we recognize that good fortune by realizing God’s mercy. Our gospel from Luke was another version of The Lord’s Prayer and the reminder that when we search for God we will find God.
Our sermon was based on the letter to the Colossians. Paul is talking to the Colossians as they navigate their new and growing life of faith. They are reminded to be active in their faith life, to remember their foundation, and to search for more insights into God. They need to focus on what they know but be energized by what they can become in Christ.
