The dog days of summer are upon us and yet fall is in the air. Life is good at St. John’s and in Chuckatuck and this community never ceases to amaze me. We banded together last Sunday to help raise money for Pastor Greg Ryan’s medical bills and, as a community, we raised over $22,000 to pay his medevac expenses from Hawaii to Duke. Awesome work to you all. We’re on the way to our new look – painting in the Parlor, new blinds in the Rector’s Study, and new furniture by the end of the week; it’s been a while and it is needed. Getting ready for the grand celebration next year. We hope that all who are able join the Parish family at Anne and Bert’s for ice cream at 4:00 this afternoon. It looks like it will be a fine afternoon.

Today we heard the writer of the First letter to Timothy talk about prayer: for whom we should pray and how we should pray. We considered that our life on earth is defined by power and power differential. We impact God’s active power in the world through our prayer; prayer has as much power as wealth (not only money but influence, imagination, and education). We are called to pray for leaders, ourselves, and others; to give thanks; and to offer the “hardest” prayer – to ask God to do what God finds best in our community and in our life. Our invitation is to ask for what we hope for – for us and for others; to pray for peaceable and well guided leaders. The only way to get better in our prayers is to pray. What do you think?

I invite your comments,
Les+
