Save the Date: Organ Dedication – We will dedicate the Dr. Arthur Abbitt Kirk memorial organ during our October Twilight at St. John’s with… event on October 30 beginning at 4:00 pm. We will have instrumental and choral music, readings, prayers, and a blessing during that time. Please invite your friends and community to come and hear the wonderful sound our “new” organ makes.

Ice Cream Social – Thank you to all who attended the Ice Cream Social at the Henderson’s last weekend. It was a great time to play games and eat ice cream with friends from church.

Worship Experiment – Based on the feedback from the 4-week experiment with an all-inclusive bulletin/order of worship, the Vestry has decided to move forward and continue printing leaflets with the entire service included. However, we need to procure a full working copy of the software and create a procedure for producing the bulletins. The latter aspect is needed just in case Don or Fr. Les is unable to produce bulletins. We will need a number of people who are willing to learn how to produce bulletins if needed. But, this week we will go back to the “standard” bulletin of yore.

CAPS Fund Raiser – The Coalition Against Poverty in Suffolk will hold their annual fund raiser on Saturday September 24 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. Member Churches are being asked to assist by selling tickets to the event – dinner from Capt. Bob’s BBQ & Fried Chicken. There is more information on the bulletin boards.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question: What is the mission of the Church? Answer: The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ. (BCP p. 855)
This week’s question: How does the Church pursue its mission? Look for the answer next week.

Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our Old Testament reading, Jeremiah 32:1-3a, 6-15, “Jeremiah Buys a Field During the Siege.” Next week’s class will discuss our Old Testament reading Lamentations 1:1-6, “The Deserted City.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we will read the psalm antiphonally.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Sanctuary Accessibility – While the Rector is in the office the Sanctuary will be unlocked and available for sanctuary, reflection, and meditation. If you know of anyone who might benefit from a little quiet time and space, they are welcome to stop by the Church.

Upcoming Parish Events – Sep. 23 – Bridge group; Sep. 24 – CVFD Fish Fry; Sep. 27 – Card Crafters; Oct. 2 – Bishop’s Visitation.

Thought for the weekLikeness: We have no idea what God looks like—so what can it mean that God creates us in God’s own image, in God’s likeness? Maybe it’s love that makes us like God.
