At a Vestry held for Suffolk Pish at Chuckatuck Church May 20th 1753

 

Present Anthony Holladay Nath Wright Jona Godwin James Turner John King Thos. Godwin William Willkinson & James Cowling, Gent.

 

The Vestry having this day met to let the Building a New Church, the same was under taken by MoSes Allman for the sum of Three Hundred forty nine pounds five shillings curt. money of Virginia, Ordered that the Churchwardens meet the undertaker at Capt. Jona. Godwin within six weeks, from the Date Hereof, and Take Bond of him with Security for the performance of said work, in Three years from the last Day of July next, and that the Churchwardens give Bond in the name of them below (?) theire SucceSores & Vestry, for the payment of one hundred pounds on the Laying of the first Brick towards the Building the said Church, provided he be readey to goe on with the Laying the Others from the said time and one hundred and twenty pounds more at covering the said Church in and the remainder at finishing the same and the same be Build agreable to the plan of Direction which is to be [Ar__eped] to the said Undertakers Bond & that he Build the said Church on the very spot [missing] shall be shown hum by Jona. Godwin John King & Anthony Holladay who have laid out the ground as by an Order last Vestry whey were Directed. Ordered that Anthy. Holladay John King Nathl. Wright Jona. Godwin & Thos. Godwin, or any three of them, meet at any time they shall appoint to view the said work During the Building thereof.

At a Vestry held for Suffolk Pish at the House of Matthias Brickell (sic) November the 15th 1753

Present

Anthony Holladay Nath. Wright John King James Turner Jonathan Godwin John Buxton William Willkinson Allen Groves & Thomas Godwin Gent.

The Vestry Having this day come to a Resolution to Build a Brick Church in Chuckatuck, Near the place where the old one stands, 60 feet in Length & 30 in Bredth from Out to Out with CumpaSs Sealing, Ordered that the Churchwardens Apply to some skillfull person in Building for a Draught for the Same, & that the give Notice in the Virginia Gazzette the time and Place the sd. Church is to be Lett up to the Cheepest Under taker, & that Jona. Godwin Anthy. Holladay & John King Lay out the Ground for the said Church and Yard.
