375th Anniversary Open House – We will hold our Community 375th Anniversary Celebration and Open House on Sunday September 17. There will be a few things needed to make the event a big success. Carroll Frohman is coordinating refreshments. We need a couple volunteers who are willing to offer tours of the sanctuary (using cue cards if desired).

CAPS Fundraiser – The Coalition Against Poverty in Suffolk (CAPS) will hold their annual fundraiser September 9 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The fund raiser is a “Barbecue and Fried Chicken” Fundraising dinner. Tickets will be available for purchase from the office for $10. We, as a Parish, are invited to assist by (1) selling tickets (asking us to sell 100), (2) provide homemade baked goods for the bake sale at the dinner, and (3) attend the dinner. For more information contact the Rector.

Worship Volunteers – Please consider volunteering to assist with worship. It would be helpful to have a few more people who can assist as a Reader or Usher. Ushering, while a simple task, is an important function of our church’s ministry. The ushers are the face of the Parish on Sunday.
While being a reader may seem daunting, there are ways to make that service less bothersome. Please see the Rector for more information and assistance.

Flowers – Thank you to all who have signed up for flowers this year. Due to the new supplier, there is a slight reduction in cost. We are charged $92.50 for flowers, and flowers last for two weeks. If you have more questions, please contact Lynn.

Finances and pledges – Our mid-year assessment of Parish Finances was a “good news – bad news” situation. Details will be forthcoming as the Vestry is reviewing the Treasurer’s report in detail to determine the direction for the coming months.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question What do we mean by the last judgment? Answer: We believe that Christ will come in glory and judge the living and the dead. (BCP 862)
This week’s question: What do we mean by the resurrection of the body? Look for the answer next week.

Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our Old Testament reading Exodus 12:1-14, “The First Passover Instituted.” Next week we will discuss our Old Testament reading Exodus 14:19-31, “’Crossing the Red Sea’ and ‘The Pursuers Drowned’.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 149 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 353, “Your love, O God, has called us here” (Wareham) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Sep. 9 – CAPS Fundraiser; Sep. 12 – Vestry Meeting; Sep. 17 – Anniversary open house.

Thought for the week – Set Free: Jesus’ unbinding is understood metaphorically as the experience of forgiveness, of being set free from a prison of our own past: things done or left undone, said or left unsaid, by others to us or by us ourselves.
