375th Anniversary Open House – Thank you to all who helped at last week’s open house. The event a huge success and we had about 40 people present for tours and presentation. Many thanks to Carroll for coordinating refreshments and for all who brought fabulous goodies to share. We get to breathe for another 25 years until the 400th Anniversary.
Blessing of the Pets – In honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi we will bless the pets as part of our worship next Sunday, October 1. Feel free to bring your pets, either on a leash or in a carrier; larger pets (horses and goats or whatever) can be left outside and blessed following service.

Worship Volunteers – Please consider volunteering to assist with worship. It would be helpful to have a few more people who can assist as a Reader or Usher. Ushering, while a simple task, is an important function of our church’s ministry. The ushers are the face of the Parish on Sunday.
Wills and Trusts Planning – Oakland Christian UCC will host a Wills and Trusts workshop on Sunday Oct. 1 beginning at 6:00 pm. Please sign-up on the sheet in the Narthex or by contacting the Oakland Christian Church office.
Flowers – Thank you to all who have signed up for flowers this year. Due to the new supplier, there is a slight reduction in cost. We are charged $92.50 for flowers, and flowers last for two weeks. If you have more questions, please contact Lynn.
Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question What is the communion of saints? Answer: The communion of saints is the whole family of God, the living and the dead, those whom we love and those whom we hurt, bound together in Christ by sacrament, prayer, and praise. (BCP 862)
This week’s question: What do we mean by everlasting life? Look for the answer next week.
Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our Gospel reading Matthew 20:1-16, “The Laborers in the Vineyard.” Next week we will discuss our Old Testament reading Exodus 17:1-7, “Water from the Rock.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.
Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 105:1-6, 37-45 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 680, “O God, our help in ages past” (St. Anne) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.
Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.
Upcoming Parish Events – Ongoing: Tuesdays – Boy Scouts meeting. Sep. 26 – Card Crafters; Sep. 30 – Red Cross Luncheon; Oct. 1 – Blessing of the Pets.
Thought for the week – Faith: I’ve often assumed faith means the absence of fear. That if I just had enough faith I wouldn’t be afraid. But fear doesn’t negate faith.
