St. John’s Blood Drive – Thank you to all who made our blood drive last week a success. Our drive gathered our goal which was 19 units. And we had donors who simply walked across the street to give.

Diocesan Bishop Search Prayer – Almighty and most gracious God, source of all wisdom and guidance, send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek and discern a shepherd for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Inspire us with hope, hearts to love you and a desire to serve one another. Grant us grace to entrust you with the future of your Church and all things. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

2020 Holy Land Pilgrimage – Bishop Jay Magness will be hosting another pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2020. The trip will be from February 3-14, 2020 departing and returning to Norfolk. Registration closes June 7. The cost for the trip is $4,750 all-expenses paid except for personal items purchased and travel insurance. There are brochures available with more information.

Soles-for-Souls – Edward Jones is sponsoring a shoe collection drive.  The program sends gently used shoes to people in need overseas. Please bring your used shoes to church to help this worthy cause. For more information see their website: www.soles4souls.org.

Formation Classes – All are invited to come together in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am. We will begin a study reflecting on the weekly lessons from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 67 together.

Questions about the Episcopal Church and its Leadership – Over the coming weeks we will have a question about our Church and Leadership as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question: What is the General Convention? Answer: (1) The General Convention is the highest governing body of the Episcopal Church. It meets every three years and is composed of the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies. The House of Bishops meets concurrently with the House of Deputies during General Convention, and also holds interim meetings between conventions. The Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, presides at meetings of the House of Bishops. (2) The House of Deputies consists of clergy and lay representatives in equal numbers. The current president of the House of Deputies is the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings. (3) The House of Bishops and the House of Deputies meet and act separately, and both must concur in identical language to adopt legislation. The General Convention alone has authority to amend the Book of Common Prayer, to amend the church’s constitution and canons, and to determine the program and budget of the General Convention, including the missionary, educational, and social programs it authorizes.
This week’s question: What is the Executive Council? Look for the answer next week.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year. Please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Tuesdays through June: Boy Scouts (7:00 – 8:30 pm); May 27 – Memorial Day (office closed); May 28 – Card Crafters; June 9 – Pentecost Sunday and Luncheon.

Thought for the weekPromise: Yes, there is always trouble and danger. There always has been. But if you look beyond all that, you will see that there is a God of LOVE who has brought all this into being and who is now holding it and caring for it. And the LOVE that God is never changes. It can never fail us, or forsake us, or forget us.
