Red Cross Blood Drive – St. John’s will be hosting a Blood Drive for the American Red Cross on May 21, 2020 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm. Our goal is to schedule at least 29 appointments for donation. Our drive will be important for the Red Cross because a lot of their drive sites are closed due to the Coronavirus. The Red Cross has instituted plans and procedures to keep everyone safe during donation and collection. Please spread the word and if you would like to schedule your donation please follow this link https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=StJohnSuffolk

Easter Sunday & Virtual Coffee Hour – Thank you to all who joined us for Easter worship (the count was 18 live streamed), and the 10 who swung by for virtual coffee hour. It was good to see folks who we hadn’t seen in weeks. We will set up another virtual coffee hour soon. Keep your eyes open for more details.

St. John’s YouTube Channel – As part of our practice during the COVID-19 Social Distancing time we created a YouTube Channel. For the moment, we share worship videos (both live stream and pre-recorded), but in the future we will connect classes and other offerings on the Channel. If we can get at least 100 subscribers on the channel we will get a unique URL to make our site easier to find. Please subscribe and have your friends subscribe at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2QWNHHKVPYpp8mKcveYd5A

Prayer and Worship in Our Homes – ChurchNext (an online learning portal) is offering a free course entitled Prayer and Worship in Our Homes through their website http://churchnext.tv. This is a good course that will help everyone navigate their prayer and worship in this time of social distancing (and beyond). Please consider taking this course (along with me), it is enlightening for those who are looking for the next steps in their practice of faith.

Coronavirus COVID-19 precautions – As the coronavirus pandemic grows our life together continues to be impacted. Most other churches and group gathering locations are closed or significantly curtailed. As we practice social distancing please continue to monitor your health and your neighbor’s health and if you need assistance please contact the rector. Please keep abreast of the CDC recommendations for limiting or delaying the spread of the virus.

Suspension of Church Activities – The suspension of activities has been extended until May at the earliest. Please join us for worship on Sunday mornings which are lived streamed on our YouTube channel (St John’s Chuckatuck) and available on our Facebook page too. We also offer Morning and Evening prayer most days during the week through YouTube. Also, if you are able, please continue to keep your pledge as current as possible – there are still expenses that need to be paid.

Formation Classes – Are suspended until further notice.

Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year. Please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year. Please remember, flowers cost $100 for 2 weeks.

Soles-for-Souls – There is a collection box to help this worthy cause in the parish hall. Consider giving gently used or new shoes for those in need. For more information see their website: www.soles4souls.org.

Upcoming Parish Events – Suspended until further notice.

Thought for the weekHope: This is what we are celebrating: the power of God to bring life out of death, hope out of despair. The paradigm of crucifixion and resurrection lies at the very heart of our Christian faith. This pattern of dying and rising is part of our DNA.
