Save the Date – We will have a special Eucharist celebration in honor of our 375th Anniversary. The Rt. Rev. Wayne Wright will be the celebrant and preacher at our Pentecost Sunday service on June 4, 2017. There will be a reception following the service.
News from the Vestry – This past Tuesday the Vestry held its April meeting. Among the actions taken the Vestry (1) approved the request from the Chuckatuck Boy Scout Troop to use our Parish Hall on Tuesday evenings; (2) catering for the luncheon following our Pentecost Service; (3) the status of buildings and grounds; and (4) establishing the need for Parish assistance in rectifying deferred maintenance and Sanctuary rehabilitation priorities. Please look for a separate email regarding the last two items.
Rise Against Hunger – Oakland Christian UCC will be once again participating in the Rise Against Hunger campaign. The will a meal packing event on May 6 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Card Crafters – Each month on the last Tuesday, a Card Crafters class is offered to our parishioners. It is held in the Parish Hall from 10 – 12 noon. During the class, we make three beautiful cards and enjoy the fun of crafting and relaxation. All materials are provided. Check out the bulletin board in the Parish House to see cards we have made. We ask that you bring small scissors and adhesive. We have door prizes and refreshments. Our next date is Tuesday, April 25 at 10 am. Class fee is $15. Steeple-to-Steeple Tour – The Steeple-to-Steeple tour provides insights into the art, architecture, stained glass, and memorabilia of eight houses of worship in Olde Towne Portsmouth. The tour will be on Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes Trinity, Portsmouth and St. John’s, Portsmouth. To purchase $21 advance tickets, go to www.steepletosteeple.com, or if tickets are available, you may purchase on the day of the tour for $25. Lunch included. Limited to the first 100 ticketholders. Proceeds benefit Edmarc Hospice for Children.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.

Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our first reading, Acts 2:14a, 22-32, “Peter Addresses the Crowd.” Next week’s class will discuss our first reading Acts 2:14a, 36-41, “’Peter Addresses the Crowd,’ ‘The First Converts,’ and ‘Life among the Believers.’” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.
Sunday’s Psalm – This week we will read Psalm 16.
Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.
