May reminders of God’s providence be with you all on the second Sunday of September. Today brings another day of worship with the ominous presence of Hurricane Irma on the southern coast of Florida and the unbelievable power the storm packs. We give thanks that our late-summer has been fairly uneventful on the weather front and offer prayers for all those who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Jose. May God comfort those who mourn and those who are in peril.

The “coincidence” of our scripture today is the story of the inauguration of the Passover in Hebrew scripture coupled with Paul’s directive to be obligated to no one except to show God’s love. We are continually reminded, by God and by practice, that God has been with us and protecting us since before time and before the present. Our thoughts today are drawn to remembering God’s providence in the midst of the toils and uncertainties of the life we live. Not always comforting in the moment but comforting if we pause and remember.

I invite your comments,
Les+
