Sunday Worship – The Rector will celebrate Spiritual Communion on premiered on YouTube this Sunday at 10:30 am. A link will be forthcoming for worship. Please join us on Sunday.
In-person Gathering Discussion – While the Commonwealth continues to reopen the Episcopal Dioceses in Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland have created guidelines for reconvening for in-person worship. The bishops of their respective dioceses are erring on the side of caution regarding reopening. The Vestry and our designated coordinator will create a plan to implement the Diocesan guidelines for reconvening.
Delegate and Alternate for FY 2021 – We need to elect one Parish Delegate and Alternate to serve July 1, 2020 through June 20, 2021. If you are interested in serving or need more information about requirements, please contact the Rector.
Regathering for in-person Worship – As we prepare to regather for in-person worship there will likely be some changes to our practices. The Bishop is working with a group to address a variety of things which will include music and singing, the practice of the Communion, recommendations about gathering the offering and others. Something to consider from a United Universalist group can be found at this link: Church in Uncertain Times.

Treasurer Resignation – Susan Kirkpatrick has served as Treasurer for number of years. She has tendered her resignation effective January 2021 (although she will assist with the audit). To prepare for the transition, she will train an assistant for the remainder of 2020 in the procedures for the position. If you are interested in serving, please contact the Rector.
St. John’s YouTube Channel – As part of our practice during the COVID-19 Social Distancing time we created a YouTube Channel. For the moment, we share worship videos (both live stream and pre-recorded), but in the future we will connect classes and other offerings on the Channel. If we can get at least 100 subscribers on the channel we will get a unique URL to make our site easier to find. Please subscribe and have your friends subscribe at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2QWNHHKVPYpp8mKcveYd5A
Prayer and Worship in Our Homes – ChurchNext (an online learning portal) is offering a free course entitled Prayer and Worship in Our Homes through their website http://churchnext.tv. This is a good course that will help everyone navigate their prayer and worship in this time of social distancing (and beyond). Please consider taking this course (along with me), it is enlightening for those who are looking for the next steps in their practice of faith.
Formation Classes – Are suspended until further notice.
Altar flower Sign-up – There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for sponsoring flowers for the coming year which will not become necessary until we reconvene for worship. As the day approaches, please help beautify the altar during your choice of two-weeks this coming year. Please remember, flowers cost $100 for 2 weeks.
Soles-for-Souls – There is a collection box to help this worthy cause in the parish hall. Consider giving gently used or new shoes for those in need. For more information see their website: www.soles4souls.org.
Upcoming Parish Events – Suspended until further notice.
Thought for the week – Gift: The gift of Pentecost has been given, and God pours out the gift of the Spirit upon us once again – not as the historic re-enactment of the antiquarian, but as the lived reality of the revelation of God, who is ever present and ever new. It is our privilege to make those gifts real in our lives, and for our time.
