Greetings on Pentecost Sunday. It is a beautiful day here in Chuckatuck and we’re missing our typical Pentecost Sunday events: worship at the pond altar and a potluck. We had a different type of service today, Spiritual Communion, that included Susan reading the lessons and the Prayers of the People and Roger playing a communion anthem. I have received feedback about the service and would like to get any feedback you have to offer. We may add this service to our repertoire as we begin to figure how to reconvene in-person worship.
Our lessons focused on the coming of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. In Acts we heard the account of the first Pentecost and the disciples speaking in tongues so that everyone could hear the message of salvation. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians identified some of the gifts of the Spirit that are supposed to help us bridge our differences and find community in our diversity. The gospel of John is the story of Jesus’ first encounter with the disciples in the upper room and his command to go and be bringers of peace in the world. The day of Pentecost is a day where we remember our strength in diversity and the power of the Spirit to transcend our human divisions. A timely message for our community.
I invite your comments,
Les+
