Sunday Worship – We will conduct a hybrid worship this Sunday in the Parish Hall for worship “for now” and have taken steps to provide social distancing and safe worship. We have also set up to live-stream worship on our YouTube channel at: https://youtu.be/Xlw7faqfWYE.
Please consider assisting with in-person worship by reading a lesson or the Prayers of the People. Lessons will be read from the podium and the Prayers of the People may be read from your seat in church.

Graveyard Fence – A section of the graveyard fence in front of the sanctuary has fallen. The Vestry wants to address the fence and our next steps. If you have input, please contact a member of the Vestry.

Church Grounds – If you are able, I invite you to come by the church grounds to see the changes that happened last week. Three trees were removed by James River Tree Service, the front yard was mowed by Waverly Lawn Service, and the back yard was mowed by Charles.

Parish Hall Usage – At the Vestry meeting on Monday, the Vestry affirmed that the Parish Hall is NOT available for outside group use. This is in line with the recommendation from the Diocesan Office as part of the regathering plan. The Vestry is reevaluating reopening the Parish Hall for outside groups as conditions change and warrant.

CAPS Fundraiser – Mark your calendar. September 20th, 11:00 am-2:00 pm. $12 per plate. Drive thru pick up. Fried chicken, BBQ, coleslaw, hush puppies, mac ‘n cheese. Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church. St. John’s is a member church of CAPS. Let’s extend our support by getting a few plates of food.

Treasurer Resignation – Susan has served as Treasurer for number of years. She has tendered her resignation effective January 2021 (although she will assist with the audit). To prepare for the transition, she will train an assistant for the remainder of 2020 in the procedures for the position. If you are interested in serving, please contact the Rector.

St. John’s YouTube Channel – As part of our practice during the COVID-19 Social Distancing time we created a YouTube Channel. For the moment, we share worship videos (both live stream and pre-recorded), but in the future we will connect classes and other offerings on the Channel. Our channel URL is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2QWNHHKVPYpp8mKcveYd5A

Soles-for-Souls – There is a collection box to help this worthy cause in the parish hall. Consider giving gently used or new shoes for those in need. For more information see their website: www.soles4souls.org.

Thought for the weekCriticism: What labels have I used to describe myself? What names do I secretly call myself? In what ways do I criticize or belittle myself? I am challenged to take a fresh look. Can I see myself as Jesus sees me? If we can get past our labels, we might be able to see the beauty in others and in ourselves.
