Save the Date: Organ Dedication – We will dedicate the Dr. Arthur Abbitt Kirk memorial organ during our October Twilight at St. John’s with… event this Sunday beginning at 4:00 pm. We will have organ voluntaries, hymns, readings, prayers, and a blessing during that time. Please invite your friends and community to come and hear the wonderful sound our “new” organ makes.

Vestry Election – Toni will rotate off the Vestry in January and we need another person to serve upon her departure. If you are interested or want more information, contact the Wardens or the Rector.

A Season of Prayer: For an Election – This election season has been among the most contentious in recent memory. But whatever our politics, as Christians we always have something we can do. We can pray. For the 30 days leading up to the election, Forward Movement is inviting Episcopalians and all others to join us in a time of prayer. The season begins on October 9. For more information, see this webpage.

Clean-up before the Organ Dedication – There are a few places around the grounds that could use a little deeper attention than the regular weekly cleaning provided by Roosevelt. If you can spare a little time and would like to help please contact a Vestry person or the Rector.

Pledge Ingathering – The Vestry began discussion on the 2017 budget at Vestry this past Tuesday. More details are forthcoming. We expect a slight increase in projected expenses for 2017. Please pray about your pledge.

Website Changes – Have you visited our website recently? You might want to stop by to see some of the changes.

Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question: What is the ministry of a bishop? Answer: The ministry of a bishop is to represent Christ and his Church, particularly as apostle, chief priest, and pastor of a diocese; to guard the faith, unity, and discipline of the whole Church; to proclaim the Word of God; to act in Christ’s name for the reconciliation of the world and the building up of the Church; and to ordain others to continue Christ’s ministry. (BCP p. 855)
This week’s question: What is the ministry of a priest or presbyter? Look for the answer next week.

Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our Old Testament reading, Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4, “’The Prophet’s Complaint’ and ‘God’s Reply to the Prophet’s Complaint’.” Next week’s class will discuss our Old Testament reading Haggai 1:15b-2:9, “The Future Glory of the Temple.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we will read the psalm in unison.

Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.

Upcoming Parish Events – Oct. 29: Fifth Saturday Luncheon at the Salvation Army; Oct 30: Organ Dedication and Twilight at St. John’s; Nov 20: Community Thanksgiving Service at St. John’s.

Thought for the week – Need: It is much easier to have love and compassion for our neighbors when we recognize our own need for love and compassion.
