Spring is in the air. A bright and glorious day today in Chuckatuck. Reaping the benefits of the season as we prepare to wrap up our Epiphany journey next Sunday and move through Shrove Tuesday (come join us for pancakes), Ash Wednesday, and the first Sunday of Lent. But today was not a day to get ahead of ourselves, we spent time praying for healing for our parish and our community: laying on hands and anointing when desired. We are looking forward to hosting the community in 9 days for fun and pancakes.

Today we heard three “vamps” on the phrase “be holy as I, the Lord, am holy…” (or perfect instead of holy). We wonder what it means to be holy, especially in a world where holiness isn’t always embraced. Our gospel today, a portion at the close of the Sermon on the Mount, is troubling and disturbing; although one could argue no less disturbing than the remainder of the gospel. Today we heard the phrase often thought of as “turn the other cheek (and don’t resist evil)…” God invites us to love all people and to imitate God (to be holy and perfect like God). In imitating God we cannot work any other way except to love and make a difference that runs counter to society. That’s our job and part of our relationship with God.

I invite your comments,
Les+
