Greetings and blessings on the last Sunday of the Summer season. We pray you are well and those with family, friends, and loved ones in the path of Hurricane Henry find them safe and sound. We offer special prayers for those afflicted by the rains and winds in South Texas. Southside Virginia continues to relax with nice weather and the sun is shining as the Parish prepares for its final summer fellowship event in a few hours.

In worship, we heard and realized from the stories that humanity really hasn’t changed from the beginning of the bible. Pharaoh despised the Jews because they were different, as such he oppressed them to keep them in their place. Yet God provided a means to change the course of the Jews. But things didn’t stop then – we are invited to help change our lives and our world. Most importantly, we are invited to do so – not on our own – but with the help of Jesus. The question Jesus asked his disciples in today’s Gospel – who do you say I am? – is still important and something we need to ask if we want to be agents of change: “Who do we say Jesus is?” Our answer leads us to new, often terrifying places. But we don’t go alone – we go with God.

I invite your comments,
Les+
