Blessings from Chuckatuck at the midpoint of our Lenten journey – 2 Sundays have passed and 2 Sundays until Palm Sunday. It’s not time to get ahead of ourselves though, the journey is important to our faith and our understanding of God’s presence, without losing sight of our community of faith and the human things that happen all around us: life, health, disease, and (not at St. John’s) death. Yet through it all God is still in control and calling us to a deeper relationship. Sometimes, God is in the irony of our humanity and the unplanned occurrences of our life – like slippers in Church.
As we worshipped today we were reminded that the life we live, while wholly our own, is the same kind of life others live. Paul told the Corinthians that the things that beset that church were common to all people. Jesus also reminded the people that God has a standard that might not coincide with our standard, what we think is a curse may not be in God’s realm. Today’s sermon looked at God’s invitation to Moses in his “humdrum” life to rest in God’s presence (take off his sandals) and to receive new tasking – to be the one who delivers Israel from bondage. Not because Moses had special skills but because God is God.
All we are asked to do by God is to let God be God and trust that God’s plan will not be defeated. Where are you being challenged to let God be God?
I invite your comments,
Les+
