Greetings to you from Chuckatuck as July comes to a close this week. The pace at church has slowed down a little but there is still a lot afoot. We are reopening little by little and finding that more visitors are dropping by during the week and seeing what we have to offer. There have been a few new “critters” around church this past week too – a butterfly chrysalis on the Parish House and a large moth caterpillar by the sanctuary. You can see the pictures of those and others on Fr. Ferguson’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

In worship we were reminded that God protects those who trust in God and that our true strength comes from God. We also remember that our relationship with God is what makes us holy and sacred (set aside for a spiritual life). In our Hebrew Scripture we heard the story of David and Bathsheba and the flawed character that was exhibited by David. Much of David’s sin, portrayed in this lesson was caused by his self-dependence instead of trusting in God. Our Psalmist began with the statement that fools are the ones who believe there is no God. But that those who are aware of, and trust in God are able to not be foolish or be captured by the distractions of life. Our reading from the letter to the Ephesians reminds us that in God all are one family, even with their differences. Also, that the power to comprehend the breadth of God’s world is only found through Jesus. Our sermon was based on the gospel today, John’s account of the feeding of the 5,000. We see the disciples getting stuck in their “known” answer to Jesus’ question, “where will we find bread to feed these people?” when the Disciples answer (in essence), “we don’t have enough money to buy bread for them.”

We are invited to remember that God knows the answer and is present in the call and our response. We need to realize that God is not constrained by our perspective and, more importantly, that God does not call us to fail, but to succeed.

I invite your comments and likes,
Les+
