Memorial Service Saturday – We will hold Marvin’s memorial service on Saturday at 11:00 am. If weather permits, the primary location will be at the pond altar. Please hold his family in your prayers as they continue to mourn Marvin’s passing.

Vestry Election 2021 – There will be a Vestry election at the end of this year. We will retire one position and seat a Vestry of three people, plus the Rector. However, the Vestry election will fill the remainder of Leone’s term and fill for a term ending in 2024. If you are willing to serve, please contact the Rector.

Parish Hall Hazards – Please be aware there are hazards on the east and north side of the Parish House. The ground has been disturbed and will be repaired after the roof is complete.
The chestnut trees have started to drop nuts. There may be trip hazards under and around the two trees for the coming weeks. Please be careful where you walk and park in front of the Parish House.

Worship Service video – Because there is no internet in the sanctuary, the video of worship will be posted on our YouTube channel on Sunday afternoon. A link to the video will be provided separately. Our channel URL is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2QWNHHKVPYpp8mKcveYd5A

Fall Clergy Conference – The Rector will be at the Fall Clergy Conference at Camp Chanco October 26-27. He will be available in case of emergency during that time.

Salvation Army Christmas 2021 – The Salvation Army Suffolk will be holding their Christmas drives. More information is forthcoming.

COVID-19 Policy update – Based on the resurgence of COVID-19, the Vestry has adopted these measures for activities at St. John’s: (1) Masking, even for fully vaccinated people, should be worn. (2) Social distancing should be observed. (3) Singing should be with masks. (4) Coffee hour should be with individually pre-packaged food and drinks.

Parish House reshingling – There has been a slight delay in completing the reshingling of the Parish House. The first estimate for completion is early- to mid-October.

Questions to consider – (1) What gifts have we, as individuals or as a church, been given to share with our community? (2) Who do we have contact with that we can share our church with?

Thought for the weekSilence: In order for music to be made, you must have elements of both sound and silence. This a perfect metaphor for our relationship with God. God lures us into God’s holy silence by what is resonating most in our lives. It is there that God is waiting to meet us.

– Br. Jim Woodrum, SSJE
