Merry Christmas on the 1st Sunday after Christmas and the second day of Christmas. The hooded mergansers are back in the pond for their annual visit, a refreshing reminder of the constancy of life in the middle of the chaos of life well lived. We had a slightly lower key celebration as we heard the continuing story of Christ’s birth at Christmas. A wonderful gathering to close the weekend of family celebrations. May you be blessed in the remainder of this Christmas season.

In worship we were reminded, yet again, that the birth of Jesus was the in-breaking of God’s light into human experience and that the Light brings light to all who come in contact with the faithful. Our reading from Hebrew scripture was taken from the prophet Isaiah. He told his people that the troubles they experienced returning to the promise land were not the end of their lives; those who remained faithful to the promise given by God would see better times. Our psalmist sang a praise to and of God. They remind us that God is active in our lives and that those who faithfully look for God’s activity will be sustained for life. From the reading from Paul’s letter to the Galatians, we are reminded that we have been adopted by God. We know this because God showed God’s self in the person of Jesus. Our sermon was generally taken from the gospel reading from the prologue of John. The birth of Christ was the expression of God to humanity in a way humans could comprehend. Likewise, John’s gospel iterates 19 times that Jesus is life and more importantly, Jesus brings eternal life.

Our practice and sharing of our perception of God in Christ is the biggest gift we receive and give. Merry Christmas and I invite your comments and likes,
Les+
