Grace and peace to you from the “Rector’s Study” in Chuckatuck. Fall has been coming and going over the past couple weeks. The work on the Sanctuary continues and we hope the exterior work can be accomplished before the weather really turns yucky. We had a lot of fun at the blessing of the animals last Sunday, and experienced the mystery and awesome nature of God’s creation when a monarch chrysalis transitioned into a butterfly. There is hope for creation if we let creation be – and that’s a good thing. Our prayers go with you as October turns toward November and the end of the year approaches.

In worship today we were served the reminder that God’s glory was provided to all creation in the person of Jesus. Through the coming of Jesus we have been equipped to works of mercy, patience in community, and perseverance in relating God’s message of hope with others. In our Hebrew scripture reading from Jeremiah we heard the prophet tell the people, “the days are surely coming” when God’s judgment and our reconciliation will come. We will return to realizing that we are God’s people and God is our God. Our psalmist sang a song to affirm how wonderful God’s law (teaching) is and God’s wisdom is revealed by sitting and interacting with scripture and community. The joy and hope we find is found only in God. Our gospel reading was the story of the persistent woman and the un-just judge. The story serves as a reminder that we need to be constant in prayer and believe that God will respond to our prayers justly and with haste.

Our sermon was based on Paul’s second letter to Timothy. Paul’s encouragement to us (through Timothy) is to be perseverant in our observation of our faith. We know that all things essential for our salvation is found in scripture; not as a checklist but as a means to live in community and in a world which rejects God from time to time. Our commitment to community is what brings hope for all.

I invite your comments,
Les+
