Blessings to you on the last Sunday of June. Today is a milepost of sorts – it will be our final Sunday (for now) worshipping in our temporary sanctuary in the Parish Hall. It is hard to believe that we first worshipped there July 12 last year. Next Sunday will mark our continued transition to “regular” worship (whatever that looks like). We are also waiting for the restoration of the doors to be completed – they will look awesome once Don is finished. We pray you have a safe 4th of July holiday and please join us for in person worship in the sanctuary next Sunday.
As we worshipped today we were welcomed with our collect reminded us that our modern church is based on the foundation of the apostles, Jesus, and those who have lived faithfully in our past. Likewise, Christ will be with us when we work with him and the Holy Spirit. Our Hebrew scripture was from 2nd Samuel and recounted David’s mourning at the death of Saul and Jonathan at the hands of the Amalekites. No matter the family animosity, the death of a loved one is a troubling time. Our Psalmist recounts the truth: if left to our own when standing before God we would fail, yet with Christ with us we can stand. All we need to do is to wait for the Lord and we will see what we need. The gospel from Mark was the stories of the twin healings: the woman who had hemorrhaged for 12 years, because of her faith; and Jairus’ daughter who was sick. The faith of people can do many things. Our sermon was focused on the reading from 2nd Corinthians and its call to be generous in what we do for God. Our mission is to share what we have and not lament that we can’t share what we don’t have. If we are authentic, we will realize that in God’s economy everyone will have enough if they depend on God.
I invite your comments,
