Parish Workday – We will have a Parish cleanup day this Saturday to neaten the grounds in preparation for the Fall and for the upcoming funeral. If you are able, please come out from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (or however much you can spare).

Vestry Election 2021 – There will be a Vestry election at the end of this year. We will retire one position and seat a Vestry of 3 people, plus the Rector. However, the Vestry election will fill the remainder of Leone’s term and fill for a term ending in 2024. If you are willing to serve, please contact the Rector.

Mutual Ministry Review – Thank you to all who participated in the Mutual Ministry Review on Oct. 5. It was a fruitful meeting and laid a foundation for your Parish’s discussion of our ministry in our community.

Parish Hall Hazards – Please be aware there are hazards on the east and north side of the Parish House. The ground has been disturbed and will be fully repaired after the roof is complete.
The chestnut trees have started to drop nuts. There may be trip hazards under and around the two trees for the coming weeks. Please be careful where you walk and park in front of the Parish House.

Worship Service video – Because there is no internet in the sanctuary, we will have a video of worship available on our YouTube channel on Sunday afternoon. A link to the video will be provided separately. Our channel URL is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2QWNHHKVPYpp8mKcveYd5A

Revival in the Park – Rekindle Virginia will be holding a tent revival in Bennett’s Creek Park from October 8-10. We will be recognized at the opening event at 7:00 pm on October 8. Please feel free to participate as local Christians seek to rekindle our passions.

Salvation Army Christmas 2021 – The Salvation Army Suffolk will be holding their Christmas drives. More information is forthcoming.

COVID-19 Policy update – Based on the resurgence of COVID-19, the Vestry has adopted these measures for activities at St. John’s: (1) Masking, even for fully vaccinated people, should be worn. (2) Social distancing should be observed. (3) Singing should be with masks. (4) Coffee hour should be with individually pre-packaged food and drinks.

Parish House reshingling – There has been a slight delay in completing the reshingling of the Parish House. The first estimate for completion is early- to mid-October.

Questions to consider – (1) What gifts have we, as individuals or as a church, been given to share with our community? (2) Who do we have contact with that we can share our church with?

Thought for the weekBeauty: You may be feeling bored with what’s around you. But look again as St. Francis would. Francis was continually overwhelmed by the beauty of the world; and not just trees and flowers, but also the wounded, the broken, and the sad. He had a vivid sense of the sacramentality of all of creation. All things reflected their creator’s love and filled him with wonder and joy. Ask God to renew your vision.
