All Saints’ Day Prayers of the People – We will offer prayers for our loved ones, by name, during our All Saints’ Day worship.
Parish Workday – Thank you to all who helped on Saturday October 28 during yard cleanup. A lot of good work was accomplished to prepare the yard for the winter and get ready for next year.
Junto Women’s Club Night on the Town – The Junto Women’s Club will be holding their fall evening event on November 7. The evening is open to both males and females. For more details, please contact Alice.
“Job Jar” – The Vestry has moved to create a “Job Jar” that will be filled with simple tasks that will help do simple maintenance around the church grounds. The goal is to break down needed repairs to 30-60-minute tasks that anyone can do. The jar will be in the Parish House or Sanctuary, depending on the day. Stop by and help do some needed work at the Church.
Church Quiz – Over the coming weeks we will have a “Church Quiz” as part of our announcements and e-News. All are invited to think about and answer the week’s question. Answers will be provided the following week.
Last week’s question and answer: Question Where is the form for the liturgy found in the Episcopal Church? Answer: The Episcopal Church liturgy is found in the Book of Common Prayer.
This week’s question: How is the typical Episcopal Eucharist divided liturgically? Look for the answer next week.
Formation Classes – This week we will discuss our Gospel reading Matthew 23:1-12, “Jesus Denounces Scribes and Pharisees.” Next week we will discuss our New Testament reading, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, “The Coming of the Lord.” All are invited to join the conversation in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 am.
Sunday’s Psalm – This Sunday we sing the portion of the Psalter together using a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 34:1-10, 22 together. The Psalm will be set to Hymn 544, “Jesus shall reign where’er the sun” (Duke Street) from the Hymnal. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.
Hospitality hour Sign-up – The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board; please sign-up for an upcoming Sunday. If you would like to help but cannot provide all the items for coffee hour/lemonade on the lawn any assistance, even a single item, will be graciously accepted.
Upcoming Parish Events – Ongoing: Tuesdays – Boy Scouts meeting. Nov. 7 – G. F. W. C. Junto event; Nov. 11 – James River Rug Hookers; Nov. 14 – Vestry Meeting.
Thought for the week – Invitation: We face each day as a recurring set of invitations: what God is inviting us to be or bear or birth in that day, in that moment. And if the invitation is to die, to give over our life in some conscious and sacrificial way, then we are prepared. It becomes obvious to us in the moment: so this is the way, so this is God’s invitation for me to offer up my life! There’s a real freedom in that.
