Blessings to you from the Rector’s Study on Thomas’ Sunday. It is a beautiful day with tons of buttercups blooming in the parking area. It has been a wonderful Easter Week and we are preparing for the next part of our liturgical year and the continuing life of the Parish. We welcome the new beginning which we continue to hear about in the celebration of the Resurrection. Our hope lies in the promise of God’s grace found in the Resurrection of Jesus.

In worship we hear reminders of the mystery which is Jesus and the reconciliation between God and humanity which is found in Jesus. We are reminded that we are reborn into fellowship with God through Christ when we live a life of faith. Our first reading from the Acts of the Apostles presents Peter’s revelation to his community that Jesus is raised from the dead, that his death was preordained, and that we are witnesses of the Resurrection. Our Psalmist sang a song which tells us that we will find protection and care in God and Christ. God is concerned with our life and our ability to find the good things God provides us. The Epistle from First Peter confirms that we are bound to Jesus and both the suffering for what is right and the blessing of real life in eternity.

Our gospel was the main contributor to our sermon. Today we heard the story of the first day and the appearance of Jesus, first to the 10 then to Thomas a week later. Jesus met Thomas in a place that allowed Thomas to get his arms around the reality of the unbelievable – the Resurrection of Christ. Thomas helps us remember that we need to ask for, and expect to get, what we need to know the fullness of God.
